Edward P. Boland Elementary School is centered on a school‐wide approach to increased reading comprehension strategies in all curricular areas: Boland readers D.R.E.A.M. to achieve Determine Importance, Remember and Retell, Express Thoughts, Ask Lots of Questions, Make Inferences to Achieve.

Our school improvement plan has defined school wide targets, developed grade level plans, generated a school wide action plan, generated a school plan for improvement, and generated a means by monitoring school performance throughout the school year. A reading first three‐tiered approach to ELA and reading instruction is utilized to support students at all levels of achievement. The three tiers in ELA includes the core, the supplemental, which includes interventions specifically geared to provide more supports, and the intensive, which includes the core and more with specific programs.

Our school regularly participates in the Achievement Network (ANET) assessment program to review students progress and focus on instructional efforts to increase proficiency. By analyzing assessment data, students that are ;at risk; receive additional programmatic instruction, i.e., Fast ForWord, Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI), Read Well, Read Well Plus, ERI, and Sonday which is targeted to assist students to reach proficiency through Title I funding to support assistance in Reading and Math.
